From Kris Falklaw

Dear Wayne,

I’ve just received an email from my sister, Micky Platzek, that your mother and father both passed away this month – please accept my sincerely condolences on this sad news. I am so sorry for you and the rest of your family – it’s painful at first but time passes and we’ll all come to terms.

I remember fondly going to your home in Fullerton for family get togethers – I was always fascinated by your mother’s artwork, graciousness, and effortless hosting- she was so beautiful – inside and out. I was always the tomboy in our family, and somewhat brushed aside – I think your mother sense this, and one day we were standing in her kitchen (I was about 9 or 10) – she took my chin in her hand and said “look at those beautiful blue eyes.” Having never received anything remotely like a compliment from my own family, you can imagine how thrilled I was – her gesture of kindness lasted me a lifetime.

I am in Los Angeles and have been practicing law for nearly 30 years – working part-time in a small firm here – would love to retire but life and bills go on. My son (25)spent four years in the Marine Corps, lives with me now and is attending college in Santa Monica (his name is Fred also!) Please let us hear from you and again, I’m so sorry for your loss.

Regards, Kris Falklaw, falklaw.falk@gmail.com

What is it that truly defines an Artist? For my Aunt Pat, it's that she always tried to show the Imagination and affection she had in her heart. She truly loved expressing her talent in a variety of artistic statements, from painting to sculpture to teaching others the fine points of her craft. We will always remember not only her artistic talent but also her joy for the love of family and friends. My first memories of Pat come from our family’s first trip to California. I think it was 1952 and we followed famed route 66 from New York to Fullerton. Pat saw to it that we experienced all the fun and joy of Southern California including a side trip to Mexico. I remember getting to know my cousins Ron and Wayne for the first time. Later when I graduated from college in 1961, two friends and I undertook the gr...
